Intro
this all began when i was chatting with my old friend she was chinese and apply for a private university that consist..as you may guess mostly chinese. But i never thought of any racism in me, since we were that close of a friends since middle school and because summer vacation is coming out, i asked her if we could hang out together. I never expected her to want to have a double date, but since i'm not in any relationship i joked her to find me in her campus. Well, that was when things became serious. she said, there wasnt many hindu students back there nor balinese (because i'm hindu and balinese). I was a bit suprise though, because i obviously know that there are few even none of hindu or balinese in her campus...it was a chinese-an university. I was more interested to get a date from a briliant chinese guy, since i'm not too fond of balinese guys anyway. My friend said that the guys in there, nade a pretty big deal about racism and religion. that's why, when she was one of me, thinking that there was no boundries in love and that we should accept people for the way they are, now since dating this chinese guy, race and religion became more important. and she didnt even stop to that, she said that being a "girl" should have certain quality so that men will attracted to them. and then she began blabbinng about costum, culture and gender...oh boy.CHINESE
First, I for one should realize this would come, because three times loosing a motion debate about "interacial, intereligion marriage" in competitions and i was the side of agreeing with it, should be cold water in my sleep. and even when my country do not allow this kind of marriage to happen so a lot of people especially celebrities go ou to foreign countries (mostly australia) to get married, my head is still floating in an idealistic world filled with peace."why not share?", "if you cant decide which side of religion your family wan to be , why not keep both and live alongside"...well all of it became bullshit to the practice! the fact is that my countries consists in so many race, clans, religion and even the religions have clans, caste yadda yadda yadda. But it's construction is not as liberal as US for that matter, because we are still tied on so many custom and culture.
and if that isnt bad enough, the intervention of other countries that invading this land is just too much of a conflict. I know chinese have been wondering around in almost every countries in the earth, because a lot of people cant stand the in-humanity of the government there and it's like hell right? and for centuries our countries has become their escape to bring a new future for their life. to be honest our people really appreciate their existance in our country, they share a lot of their treasures to us, like culinary, art, medicine and so on. and a lot has adapt with our own culture. But lately things has change as more and more of them come to our country, and as our president forbid them to work for the government (eventhough now has changed), but still most of them owned shops and companies. and like the other community of china town, there is gap between them and others. they became their own community, still using their natural language and culture. Now I have no problems in seeing that they will always look back to their ancesstors, that's cool. But give us some slack please. I mean building private school which consist in mostly them, and even though they classify it as a religion school and anyone can get in there, but there are still discrimination. And most of them dont allow their children to marry anyone outside their race and religion so they keep their environment free from other races. Maybe not every chinese family are like this, but most of them are seemingly like this.
I know, there are a lot of discrimination that my people has caused for them, especially the conflict in 1998. but surely they should remember that this is their sanctuary, their escape from the land that never really wanted them and now became their home. so they should respect their home and the people in it no matter how harsh the condition is. It's not really hard to prove yourself as time goes by, but in a way that i personally feel right now, they are just a bunch of missionary pirate that try to take over this countries so that they could be the majority of their race. Why do they have to married the same race and even religion to produced alot of children, while in their original countries they only can have one? and why do they have to get so many trash products back from their country and still loyal to them, while here owe us that much? I know this get can get a little complex as they play a major role in our economy, but the social views are still too much to handle.
Interference of Chinese is only one thing, but their is one major monster that seem to tear my countries apart and made it famous for it. ISLAM . well we all learn that Islam played a major role in our history and what has become our country now. But the fact is we are aware that we're still "bhinneka tunggal ika" (unity in diversity) and a most of us and almost all of us very much embrace it. Though people might not know much about the cruel missionary of religions especially islam to our country and how it's affecting our people. But now even in this modern world people keep doing missionary to our people considering their poor condition so they wouldnt have much to turn to. You all might notice the terrorism that happen to our country, those arent merely vicious attacks of our people but it's thought and clearly because of the dogma from people from certain clans in the middle east.
ISLAM
I notice as i was moving to Jakarta there was a lot of Muslim schools and community that was beyond necessary. I quickly realize that there was so many people that are poor and have little guidance in education so they turn to religion instead, because its cheap and providing for them. but a lot of Arabians (maybe not to proper to call it) funded those school, and as if they just doing it for charity for our well-being, its impossible for them to not have a "catch". If their objectives are making more troops for Islam missionary like i read in some muslim books, where some of those students are shipped to Cairo or other middle east countries to learn about their religion, well I'm totally not okay with the idea, but i know it can be even worse. Some of the middle east interference cause a lot of anarchy and terrorism through out our country. it's not too surprising, since they even made a group of specialist and analist to watch over it, but its no doubt this is the cause of our country gaining the name as "the terrorists' nest".
Our people are too poor and less concerned about "changing the world" because it's hard enough for them to feed themselves and their countries. so there must been some hands that have been messing their heads up. And it didnt stop just that, it seems that our people head's got so messed up that we began to change ideology. Now it doesnt feel much like unity in diversity, because most of us obviously are muslim and mosque or muslim become more and more and SPROUTING! Lately there are some association that vocally promote a motion "there is NO reason for our country to NOT BE A MUSLIM country, because obviously we are mostly muslim". and since the americans invaded middle east and israel are very strong on their attacks to palestine, there has been a wave of hatred in my country for the west and the jews. There're been even so much stupidity about their views of muslim compared to others that i wouldnt even mention it (well usually from the anger that is caused by people's negative image of islam).
so then again i have to say to some of people that cause interference to our country to kindly reconsidered that even though it may bring some positive effects like bringing new things and simply nurturing our people with your treasures, but on the other side some social defects are just unpredictable. in one hand people love to share what they have and other may or may not accepted it. but in the other hand there are still a desire to do missionary or take some dominant step avoiding being a minority.
so what does that have to do with the title pluralism and consequences? well basically everything. I just simply think that, we are now living in a global world, we are not separated by distance anymore so we became aware of our differences. Everything today is a mixed up. I could enjoy eating western food enjoying western products even though I'm not in the west. and i have a lot of friends that are Chinese, Muslims, Americans and so on, we had lived to that to realize our differences and i know there will always be competitions, rivalry and conflict among us. But from what i see now people are trying to get domination instead of gratification, trying to change the world by going to the sidelines to make a change in the world and getting the world to be what they wanted to be. So there's no point of pluralism at all if you want us to be the same or always following what you want. I mean if you want to live in this world you have to accept the state of others, or else don't live in it. Live in your own community or patronizing others to follow you...well that's no fun...
To my friend that i was chatting with, I just said, I'm not going to find anybody serious yet (since people views about themselves nowadays in my country are much too shallow).
Maybe i'll just date a more universal person...
